Hello, I am Dr. Bercier, and have been an equine veterinarian for over twenty years, http://www.equinemedicine.org/ primarily working with athletic horses and their associated lameness issues. Rehab has been an important part of my practice in returning the equine athletes to performance, whether they have had a serious wound, a tendon or ligament injury, or suffer from some degree of arthritis or bony damage.

I have shown dogs since I was a kid, and have been very active in Schutzhund/IPO the past several years, with one of my dogs (Blitz) achieving the highest titles. Competing at this level has markedly increased my interest in conditioning, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. The exercises I’ve taught Blitz have improved his core strength, and a targeted series of stretches after training has prevented the recurrence of an abnormal gait which had been intermittently present for ten months. The more I studied, the more convinced I became that rehab can benefit most dogs at some point in their lives, and conditioning is a necessary part of better health – whatever species you are. This has led me to pursue the CCRP (Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner) program via the University of Tennessee, and I am excited to now be able to offer this service to our local animals. We also have two assistants trained to help with the rehab program, one specially trained in the Proscope (intelligent microcurrent) therapy.

A dog’s month of strict crate rest after injury or surgery has been replaced with the physical therapy of joint motion and stretching, the same as any human patient. The recovery is faster. The animal is stronger. The owners are happier. If you would like to talk with us about your animal, feel free to give us a call. I bet we can help!
