Weight Loss

Overweight dog     Bodies maintained at optimal weight enjoy better physical and mental health. There is less stress on bones, joints, and the cardiovascular system. Internal organs surrounded by too much abdominal fat have to function at a higher rate than normal. Adipose tissue (fat) by itself stimulates inflammation throughout the body, and we all know inflammation is BAD! Overweight dogs are unable to keep up their activity level which leads to further weight gain. I can go on and on... The bottom line is that you want your dogs to live as long as they can and we want to help you learn how to achieve that. Let's schedule a consultation and see how we can help your individual dog. Weight control is something that you can do primarily at home with the right guidance and plan in place.

The initial visit will include an orthopedic exam and digital thermal imaging. We will discuss nutrition, feeding, management strategies for home, and set appropriate goals. We review your dog’s daily calories, feed, snacks, and activity. We review overall health and history with your primary veterinarian to make sure your dog friend is healthy enough to begin a serious exercise program. We will create a home exercise program for you and communicate regularly with your primary veterinarian. Following the initial evaluation, we will create an individual plan for in-clinic work as well.
