Dog Training Classes

Welcome to Danielle Bercier DVM CCRP Dog Training Classes Baldwin County Alabama. Dr. Bercier has been training and showing dogs in various dog sports since she was in junior high. The past ten years she has been very active in Schutzhund, a German sport that includes tracking, obedience, and protection, achieving 4 IPO3 titles; the highest in the sport.

We believe that every dog deserves to spend quality time with their favorite person, and it is never too late to teach an old dog a new trick!

Why Train Your Dog?

Do you ever get frustrated with your dog for not coming when you call? Or not staying on the porch when the UPS guy drives up? Many people do! But if he was never properly taught to do these things, he won’t be able to consistently. Dogs do for us what we teach them to do. Our training classes aim to teach YOU how dogs learn and how best to teach them. The rules of learning theory apply to all species and we want to have our dogs obey willingly and happily. Once you have an understanding of how they learn you can teach them many things for competition, entertainment, and to be useful around the house. The Canine Good Citizen program is a prerequisite for most therapy dog programs and can help prove your dog is good. Several local young people have used dog training as a school, Girl Scout, Boy Scout, or 4H project.

Well-behaved dogs are a pleasure to have and take out in public. They can be good ambassadors for their breeds and people don’t mind having them around. It has been shown that one of the best ways to curb unwanted behavior is to give the dog mental exercise — learning. Mental exercise is even more important than physical exercise in improving behavior. AND…. It’s really fun!

There are many dog sports and games that you can engage in or compete in, and for most you don’t need a purebred dog; all are welcome. Most dog sports are great exercise for both dog and person, and your dog loves spending time with you and feeling important. Have a look at our classes and see what appeals to you. Dog Training Classes

Our classes are small so that everyone gets enough help. We have Canine Good Citizen classes, at the end of which we will have the test for your certificate. We have Trick Dog classes which are a natural extension of the CGC, and we hold those tests also on test day so that you can work your way through all of the Trick Dog levels.

We have competition obedience and AKC rally classes and coach people for beginning tracking. To certify through the levels of these, you have to attend dog shows; but that is not a requirement if you just want to learn and train for fun. Many people do wonderful obedience and love to track as the sun is coming up, but don’t care to enter competition; they just do it for the challenge and fun of working with their dog.
